Grant Park Nov. 4
They came to
Grant Park

They weren't going to see any more of Barack Obama than they would at home on their televisions. But tens of thousands of Chicagoans--and those who had traveled there Tuesday--filled Grant Park to watch the election results. To celebrate, they didn't want to be alone. They were drawn to the lakefront park because they didn't know where else to be, and they knew everyone else would be there. They wanted to be part of history, to feel they took part in an event that will always be remembered. They brought their children, too, so they could say they were there.
Afterwards, rivers of people filled the streets as they streamed out of the park. It was a joyful crowd. Spontaneous cheers would erupt from nothing at all and ripple through the flowing mass. Tomorrow would be different.
