Holiday traveler, Francis Villablanca arrived on the Amtrack Train at the Oxnard Transportation Center from San Luis Obispo where he is a biology professor at Cal Poly and hugs his three year old daughter Maile. Maile and her mother came down a week ago to visit Maile's grandmother Lois Atwiell. Runners at the start of the race were sprayed with confetti.The 20th annual marathon took place today winding it's way through the neighborhoods of Los Angeles 25,000 runners participated. They were cheered on by throngs of supporters as they made their way through the course.

The face of war. On April 9, 2003 Marwa Niam age 9 saw helicopters and what they believed to be U.S. planes flying overhead near her home in the Mada'en district near Bagdad. She ran into her home to tell her mother. Her mother told her not to worry it would be OK. At that moment the errant bomb hit her home.
The surgery involves cutting a strip of skin from the forehead and twisting it to become the nose skin. Cartilage is taken from the ear to build the tip of the nose.
During the third surgery the flap was cut and the new nose began to take shape. There would be one more surgery.

Los Angeles County Coroner Betsy Magdaleno (shadow bending over) examines the body of the pedestrian killed when hit by a metrolink train. Also with her is forensic attendant Julie Bishop (shadow on right)A pedestrian was killed this morning at 7:10 am when he was hit by a Metrolink train filled with morning commuters. Two witnesses on the scene said the pedestrian was running westbound along Van Nuys boulevard in Pacoima when he was hit. The crossing gates were down and the lights were flashing. the victim was thrown 221 feet from the point of impact. the victim's name has not yet been released.09/30/2002
